A lot of people always ask do you pierce with a gun or a needle? As much as a needle does sound scarier than a piercing gun, but do you know all the risks of using a gun instead of a needle?
Below we have outline why it is better to pierce with a needle than it is to with a gun!
Precision: Needles are employed to ensure accuracy and the correct angle for piercing the body. In contrast, a gun is less precise due to its spring-like mechanism that pushes it through the body, unlike a needle that guides the jewelry through the hole, potentially resulting in uneven or misaligned piercings.
Healing process : When using a gun, the healing process of the piercing is delayed due to the fact that the gun uses a trigger force (a blunt force) to pierce the jewelry through the skin which creates the hole. This method causes additional trauma to the area and can increase risk of complications during the healing. Whereas in comparison, the needle pierces through the skin and is a hollow which allows it to grab the skin being pierced and make a perfect spacing for the jewelry to be placed into. Since a clean cut is made when using a needle, the tissue is minimally disturbed which allows for a faster healing process.
Potential for Infection : Piercing needles are single-use items that come in pre-sterilized packaging which significantly reduces the risks of cross-contamination. However, a gun in comparison are hard to truly sterilize for multi-use. The structure design does not allow all components to be able to withstand high temperatures and pressures which is needed to properly sterilize the equipment in an autoclave. Without being able to fully sterilize the instrument, increases the risk of potential cross contamination if used more than single use.
Hopefully this educates you a little better and helps you decide where you plan on getting your next piercing done!
